Activities 2005

17th January / 14th March - General Astronomy Course at the Pre St Didier Library. 8 theoretical/practical lessons for an overall introduction to Astronomy. Lessons on mondays.

29th January - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

1st February / 22nd March - General Astronomy Course at the OAVDA. 8 theoretical/practical lessons for an overall introduction to Astronomy. Lessons on tuesdays.

26th Febraury - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy

14th March / 19th March - "Les journées de la francophonie". A week dedicated to the Aosta Valley schools (secondary and high schools).

19th March - “Galilean Nights” Observation evenings to discover the Solar System, following the steps of the scientist from Pisa : observation of the moon, Jupiter and Saturn and other fascinating objects in deep space. Visits must be booked, prices published in "bookings and prices".

26th March - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

16th / 17th April - Introduction to the Observatory's instruments. The course's intention is to teach the students how the Observatory's instruments work. A certifcate will be issued at the end of the course allowing the participants to rent the Observatory's instruments.

30th April - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

28th May - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

17th /18th June - Archeo-astronomy Course

Theoretical and practical course illustrating the Aosta Valley 's most important archeo-astronomical sites.

25th June - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

24th / 30th July - Astronomy Summer School.

Saint-Barthélemy – course on practical astronomy for teachers in one of Europe 's best-equipped observatories. One week, after school hours, for teachers, a professional refresher and general star gazing training course.

30th July - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

7th / 13th August - Participation at the 20th Haute Maurienne Vanoise Festival (FR).

12th August - "Etoiles et Musique". Traditional date with the Perseids for an evening observation organised for the public. A glass of wine will toast the Saint-Barthélemy Observatory's second birthday.

27th August - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

2nd / 4th September - 14th edition of Italy's longest running STAR PARTY, orgnaised with UAI.

24th September - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy

27th September / 8th November - General Astronomy Course at the OAVDA. 8 theoretical/practical lessons for an overall introduction to Astronomy. Lessons once a week (day still to be established).

3rd October - "SUN PARTY" - all over Italy observing a partial eclipse of the Sun. The eclipse will cover 75% of the Sun seen from Saint-Barthélemy and will be almost complete seen from southern Spain and the African coast. The event will be covered from Saint-Barthélemy and Spain transmitting images directly to the Observatory's web site and on to the media (Corriere della Sera, La Stampa, Canale 5 and TG Archimede).

8th October - National anti-light Pollution Day.

29th October - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy.

5th November - Observe Mars in opposition and the Moon-Venus at sunset. Public observation evening at the OAVDA and in the rest of Italy.

26th November - "End of the month conference" at Saint Barthélemy

Christmas 2005 - a series of themed conferences.

NB: The "end of the month conferences" will deal with scientific arguements not necessarily dedicated to astronomy. The speakers are still to be decided. The choice of subjects will be centered on various important anniversaries during 2005: a hundred years since Jules Verne's died, a hundred years since Pietro Tacchini (famous Italian spettroscope) died and a hundred years since Albert Einstein published his theory of Restricted Relativity.

The programme will be renewed every three months.

2005 Past Events.

Christmas 2004 - 2005 . A series of public conferences

In occasion of the Christmas festivites, 2004, the Observatory is organising a series of conferences on astronomy. The subject matter is suitable for all ages. No experience or prior knowledge is necessary.

The talks will start at 18.00 in the Observatory's conference hall at the Ostello di Lignan.

Participation is free and there's no need to book.

Saturday 8th January – The Christmas Comet

The Observatary organised a special event dedicated to the Machholz Comet, commonly known as the Christmas Comet.

The evening began at 20.30 with a conference held in the Observatory's Conference hall at the Ostello di Lignan.The speaker was Professor Federico Manzini, member of the "C.Fillietroz" Foundation's scientific committee. A guided observation of the comet using the Observatory's instruments followed the conference.
